My story isn’t really one of how I got a nickname, but more of how I got my legal name. It all started with my mom and the process she went through while she was pregnant with me. Her and my father could not agree on a name because she wanted something to represent her side of the family and him his.
When they couldn’t come to a decision, they decided to turn to the TV shows, hobbies, actresses and athletes. My dad loved Sammy Sosa, since he was a Cubs fan, and my mother loved the Looney Tunes character Yosemite Sam. My name was born from there, a compromise between the two people that made me.
My mom got the last say since she was the lucky one that got to birth me, and Samantha was born. My dad still got to count it as a win for himself too because my nickname has always been Sami, and when I played softball, he called me Slammin Sami. His take on Sammy Sosa.
